  • Lindy in the Park – SFLX Edition with Special Shim Sham

    Hello Dancers,

On September 13th, a great time was had by all at the SFLX Edition of Lindy in the Park.  With the extra large turnout, extended hours, and SFLX, the energy level was especially high (the free pie, courtesy of SFLX, also helped–thanks guys!).

We also had a very special shim sham organized by Terisa Hawk from Spokane to help raise awareness for lung cancer.  If you were in the shim shim, or even if you missed it, here’s a YouTube link of a very nicely produced video of the shim sham:

    Enjoy!
And see you in the park!

  • LitP 13th Anniversary Prints

A big thank you to everyone who attended, who brought food to share, and who helped cleaned up at the end.

The Anniversary is definitely something we all look forward to each summer — it’s pretty amazing when you think about it: THIRTEEN years. Wow.

    All Smiles

People were asking about prints of the group photo, so this year we’re making them available online.

It’ll be $10 for a basic 8″ x 10″ print. We’ll also offer FRAMED prints, but because the frame and framing service is quite costly, these prints can only be offered at a premium.

Proceeds will go towards covering LitP administrative costs, e.g. webhosting, domain registration, gasoline, etc.

Thank you so much for your support!

Lindy in the Park is turning 13! On Sunday, August 16, 2009 come celebrate 13 years of free swing dancing in Golden Gate Park with a special Anniversary edition of Lindy in the Park. WHY:
Celebrate 13 great years of Lindy in the Park, the longest-running regular lindy hop dance event in the San Francisco Bay Area. The first Lindy in the Park took place on August 18, 1996 with 13 enthusiastic dancers and a boombox. Over the years, Lindy in the Park has grown to the point where it regularly attracts 100-200 dancers each week and has become a San Francisco swing dancing institution.

No BBQ’s this year, but the hot dog stand on the corner has promised us they will bring an extra supply of hot dogs. We think this will be easier and safer for everyone.

    WHERE:
The regular Lindy in the Park location: the south sidewalk area along John F. Kennedy Drive between the de Young Museum and the north entrance to the Music Concourse. (Note that the 8th Ave. entrance and JFK Dr. are closed to car traffic on Sundays.)  Yahoo! Maps for Lindy in the Park (JFK Dr. location), San Francisco

  • Lindy in the Park lives on!

    Great news everyone!

I’ve been speaking with the Rec & Park Department, and they have given us permission to continue having Lindy in the Park. We will be able to resume Lindy in the Park this Sunday, July 5, at our regular time (11:00am-2:00pm) and location (south sidewalk area of JFK Drive, between 8th and 10th Ave).

So there’s no need to write any more letters, collect signatures, or march on City Hall. Just show up Sunday at Lindy in the Park and have a great time!

Thank you to everyone for all your support and encouragement!

Hope to see you at the park,
    Ken
