Sunday, Nov 5, 2023: Tribute to Gary Hobish

As a tribute to our dear friend, longtime swing dancer, and Lindy in the Park emcee and sound engineer Gary Hobish, we will set up a memorial at Lindy in the Park tomorrow, Nov 5, 2023, where people can place flowers, photos, cards, etc., and we will be playing his favorite tunes. Also, please wear your favorite Hawaiian shirt in Gary’s honor!

  • Resources for Support

Thanks to Maggie Brewer for providing us this list of resources for any dancers who might want professional support to help process the loss.  Thanks to Maggie for helping us find the right words to say.  We really appreciate the love and support of this community, and we have faith that we will get through this difficult time together.

    – Hospice organizations generally have grief groups that people can join. I highly recommend this one: Hospice by the Bay: https://bythebayhealth.org/grief-support/
    – Often insurance companies (Kaiser, Sutter Health, etc.) will offer grief support groups.
    – Marina Counseling Center: https://www.marinacounseling.com/
    – Jewish Family and Children’s Services: https://www.jfcs.org/find…/seniors/grief-and-bereavement/
    – Institute on Aging: https://www.ioaging.org/…/center-for…/grief-services/
    – Most of the above websites also have Resources pages, which I recommend checking out.

Also, following are mental health crisis resources. The three big ones are:
    – National Suicide and Crisis Lifeline: text or call 988, https://988lifeline.org/
    – California Warmline (peer-run listening line): text or call 855-845-7415, https://www.mentalhealthsf.org/peer-run-warmline/
    – Crisis Text Support Line: text 741741, https://www.crisistextline.org/
